Bigger Game

A poor unsuspecting juvenile squirrel was killed in our yard. Not sure how one of the cats did it, but one minute we were outside no squirrels or anything in our yard, then 1 hour later his dead body was found smack in the middle of the yard. We know it was one of the cats because of the 2 small bite wounds in its neck. We removed it and JD really wanted to eat it for a snack.

Mouse Hunt

When I came home from work today, I found Nori laying in the middle of the grass acting out of character. I approached and she stood up. I watched as this critter run and jump and then saw Nori pounce, grab the mouse, and run off into the garden. I went back inside and came back out 20 mins later and she still had the poor little mouse. I approached again and this time she didn't run off.

I picked Nori up and let the mouse run off, she didn't seem to be hurting it...more like playing with it, but I felt like she was torturing the poor thing.
She didn't seem to mind as she and the other cats followed me into the garden for some fresh catnip. The cat barrier keeps 3 of the 4 cat inside...Rowan still somehow gets out.

Strawberries are turning red!

And the pool is nice and clean and ready to be swam in!

Random fun

Here are some random, yet cute pics of the cats. I was slacking on uploading my photos from my camera to my computer so I had a back log of random shots...so enjoy!  At the end of the kitty update, you will see pics from my dog JD's birthday. He turned 5 on Saturday and had a fun day. He and his friends enjoyed "pup cakes" and shared 2 different doggie birthday cakes.

I cannot believe she allowed him to sit on her

Hunter was having a little too much fun with this box...

 Sage, JD, Hawk, & Nakita

Hawk is not sure what to do with this pup cake

Nakita does not hesitate to bite into the cake

Sage carefully nibbles into her piece

Hawk used his front teeth to chip off pieces of the frosting

Nakita didn't want to share

Overall...JD seems to have a great birthday!

Near Death

Today was a productive day. We decided to use the utility trailer to clean out broken stuff from the garage. We packed it all up and covered it with a tarp and tied the contents down to take it to the dump.

We got about 2 miles from the house. When someone frantically flagged us down. We rolled down the window and he yelled "there's a cat in your trailer!" We immediately pulled over as soon as we could. I jumped out and began calling for the kitty. I didn't know which cat it was, but soon popped out Declan from the rear end, way underneath the tarp. He ran right to me and I put him in the car.

He traveled with us to the dump and was being such a sweet heart in the car. Declan is the least affectionate cat of the 3, but not after his near death experience! He was all purrs and head bunts.

I am not sure what possessed him to want to be under a smelly hot tarp, but I am thankful he was okay. I am still shocked that he didn't jump out. We hit several stop lights and made many turns before we were notified. He could have chosen to leave at any point, but he didn't. When we got home he continued to be a love. We even went on a neighborhood walk with the dogs and he followed me the entire way with his tail straight up. It was out of character for him. He seems very connected to me today for some reason...maybe he understands how truly lucky he was to remain safe given the situation he was in. I know now how curious  cats are and will be extra careful with stuff like this. I will be double and triple checking for sneaky kitties!
